Every first Tuesday of the month, the ladies’ morning tennis group enjoys not only the tennis, but also coffee and cakes (the latter provided by a different volunteers each month).  On Tuesday 7 November 2017, things were a little different as there was the added attraction of a fundraising stall set up by member Liz Downs in aid of Canine Partners.  Although the weather was inclement from the start, some 20 members faithfully turned up to support the event and were rewarded by the presence of “special guests” Barbara Houston and her Canine Partner Mungo.  Sales of Christmas Cards were brisk and Mungo wowed everyone by helping them put money in the collecting bucket!  With the rain continuing to fall, Liz and Barbara were asked to say a few words about the charity which provides assistance dogs for people with physical disabilities.  Liz explained how the dogs were trained and Barbara spoke movingly about how Mungo had given her independence.  Needless to say, a few tears were shed.
The morning was deemed a great success by all present, not least by Liz and Barbara who took away £96 in donations, £95 in sales and the knowledge that they had spread the word about this wonderful charity.  Pictured are Barbara and Mungo admiring the Canine Partners coloured cake made by Liz for the occasion.
Liz would like to thank everyone at the club who made this event possible.  She is always looking for fundraising opportunities and is happy to give talks to groups around the area.  Anyone interested should contact Liz on 01425 617609.
